Olympic Weightlifting
At Scenic Route Sports, we are excited to add Texas Surge Olympic Weightlifting to our sports lineup.
Olympic weightlifting is an explosive, highly technical strength sport where athletes lift a loaded barbell from the floor to overhead using two competition lifts:
- Snatch
- Clean & Jerk
These lifts require a combination of power, speed, mobility, coordination, and precision. Competition is based on the maximum weight an athlete can successfully lift in these two standardized movements. The score is determined by the total weight successfully lifted from both lifts added together.
Our goal is to help athletes develop proper technique, build strength, and prepare those who are interested in competing in local and regional competitions. While our primary competitive season will run from June through September, Olympic weightlifting is a year-round training opportunity.
Program Cost
$150 per athlete for the summer season June-September
This includes:
- Coaching/programming
- Scenic Route Sports T-shirt
- 24 – 33 Sessions (June-September)
Athletes who choose to compete should expect additional competition-related expenses such as meet entry fees and travel costs.
For the program to make, we will need 16 athletes (This covers all expenses related to administering the program, such as insurance, T-Shirts, and rental fees).
*The goal is to continue this year-round with planned rests for athletes that decided to participate year-round. We will charge in 3-month blocks due to facility booking.
Additional Membership Fees
Athletes 18 years old and younger will be required to purchase a membership through USAW if they compete in USAW-sanctioned meets.
Annual Membership Cost: $39.00/year for the first year or 6.99/month. For Adults/Masters, it is 89.00/year or 10.99/month. See USAW Prcing here.
Memberships run from January 1 to December 31, so athletes should register in January if they plan to compete during the year.
Athletes 19 and older may also purchase a membership for accident insurance coverage, but it is not required unless they plan to compete.
Who Can Participate?
Athletes ages 10–99 are welcome.
Younger athletes may be allowed on a case-by-case basis if a parent is also participating.
While athletes will learn Olympic lifts, the program will also include:
- Strength development
- Speed and power training
- Mobility work
- Accessory lifts
- General athletic performance development
This makes the program beneficial for both competitive lifters and athletes participating in other sports.
